Most cricketers are filed under the wrong visa

Almost everyone who calls us about a cricket visa asks about the P-1. It is the athlete visa, so it sounds right. For most cricketers it is the wrong answer, and finding that out after a denial is an expensive way to learn it.

The P-1A tests the competition, not just the player. It requires a competition with a distinguished reputation that requires internationally recognised athletes. USCIS has historically not accepted Minor League Cricket as clearing that bar. Major League Cricket, ICC-sanctioned events and established overseas franchise leagues are the credible P-1A routes.

The O-1A tests the player. It is the classification most professional cricketers actually qualify under, and in practice it is more useful — it covers playing, coaching, running an academy, clinics and seminars. The P-1A does not.

We have seen a cricket P-1A denied because the league did not clear that bar. The templates in this kit lead with that decision, before you draft a word.

What is in the kit

These are real petitions, and they are redacted

This is not a set of invented samples. It is casework from petitions that were prepared and filed, shared with the tournament's permission.

Who this is for

Players and coaches

You want to understand what a strong petition in your sport actually looks like before you spend money on one — or you intend to prepare it yourself.

Clubs, franchises and academies

You are bringing in overseas players or staff and you need to know what you will be asked for, and what the support-personnel filings involve.

Agents and attorneys

You handle sports immigration but not cricket, and you want the sport-specific evidence map: which criteria fit, and what a cricket RFE looks like.

What this is not. It is not legal advice, and buying it does not make us your lawyers. It cannot tell you whether your own record clears the bar, or which classification your case should be filed under. Those are the two things worth having a conversation about — see below.

When you need more than paperwork

Get your own case assessed

A template cannot tell you whether your record qualifies, or which classification to file. Sit down with Attorney Sherrod Seward and find out.

Book a consultation

You have no U.S. employer to petition

A petition needs a petitioner. When no single U.S. employer will sign, an agent can act as petitioner instead. Aventus Visa Agents does exactly that.

Questions

Is this legal advice?

No. It is educational material and a set of drafting aids. Buying or using it does not create an attorney-client relationship with Sherrod Sports Visas, the Law Offices of Sherrod Seward, or any affiliated entity. Immigration rules and USCIS policy change — confirm current requirements at uscis.gov before you file.

Can I file a petition myself using these?

People do. Whether you should depends on your case. The templates and the worked examples will show you what a complete filing looks like and where cricket petitions typically get challenged. They cannot assess your evidence for you.

Which classification do I need — P-1A, O-1A or EB-1A?

Short version: P-1A depends on the league being internationally recognised, O-1A depends on you, and EB-1A is the green-card route with the highest bar. The P-1A template opens with the decision in full. If it is still not obvious after reading it, that is exactly what a consultation is for.

How do I get in after I pay?

Your username and password appear on the confirmation page immediately after payment. Save them before you close the tab. If you lose them, email us and we will send them again.

Are the players' real names in the documents?

Yes, with the tournament's permission. Personal data — passport numbers, dates of birth, addresses, signatures and personal contact details — has been removed from every file.

Do you cover sports other than cricket?

Sherrod Sports Visas works across sport. This kit is cricket-specific because the evidence, the leagues and the governing bodies are cricket-specific. Other sports follow.

Can I share or resell the files?

No. They are licensed for your own use and your own cases. Please do not redistribute them.
